12 New Year’s Resolutions with Wine as the Star
The 12 chimes of midnight on December 31st mark the beginning of the New Year, celebrated worldwide with an explosion of joy and festivity. It presents itself as a new opportunity to fulfill all those wishes we’ve set for ourselves throughout the year.
Many of us embrace this time of year with the traditional list of New Year’s resolutions. Filled with goals we hope to achieve in the 365 days ahead, this list is, unfortunately, often abandoned within just a few days or weeks. Sporadic visits to the gym, healthy diets that last only a couple of days, trips to nowhere… and much more, especially given the current circumstances. But that won’t stop us from dreaming.
At Bodegas Mendoza, we want to help you fulfill (without giving up) all your wine-related wishes this 2022. To that end, we’ve created a list of resolutions that any wine lover or enthusiast will enjoy, helping you savor the New Year as it deserves—with a good wine by your side.
1. I Will Drink New and Better Wines
It’s true that humans are creatures of habit, and many of us have a favorite wine we rely on to accompany our best moments.
However, this year, we encourage you to dare to dive into the wonderful world of wine, tasting and discovering different wines (and why not, of higher quality) that will broaden your knowledge and help you uncover new tastes and preferences.

In this case, follow the saying: “Better an unknown wine than one yet to be discovered.”
To help you embark on this surprising oenological journey, we encourage you to try some of the best wines from Bodegas Mendoza during the year 2022.
2. I Will Share Good Times with Family/Friends/Partner over a Good Wine
Wine and good company are, without a doubt, the best combination to enjoy this year 2022. A family gathering, a meeting with friends, or an evening with your partner becomes more special when accompanied by a good wine. Likewise, a glass of wine is savored and enjoyed much more in good company.
Therefore, after the challenging past few years, we encourage you to share, enjoy, laugh, and savor the new year as a good wine should be enjoyed: in the company of your loved ones.
3. I Will Take a Wine Tasting Course
It’s never too late if the reward is worth it. Whether you’re new to the world of wine or have been enjoying it for years, it’s always a good time to learn the art of wine tasting. Sight, smell, and taste are the senses you’ll develop, giving you greater technical knowledge of wine through tasting. Nowadays, you can find numerous wine tasting courses, even in online formats.
For instance, the Regulatory Council of the Alicante PDO, which certifies our wines, offers visual resources, video tastings, and wine tasting courses on its website (https://vinosalicantedop.org/videocatas/).
At Bodegas Mendoza, once you’ve taken an introductory tasting course, we offer you the opportunity to continue developing your knowledge. A great way to do this is by visiting our winery, where you’ll taste more than six different wines. Doesn’t that sound like a great practical exercise? Visit us and discover the characteristics of our best wines through tastings and guided wine sessions included in our visits and activities.
4. I Will Visit More Wineries
Visiting a winery is the most common and widespread wine tourism activity. It’s an ideal way to learn about wine while exploring new territories, cultures, landscapes, cuisines, and more.
This year, we invite you to create a list of all the wineries you’d like to visit, plan the dates for your visits, and decide on the complementary activities you want to enjoy.
Of course, if you live near Alicante or are planning to visit, your list must include Bodegas Enrique Mendoza. Our natural surroundings, climate, and team will ensure you have a pleasant experience, transporting you to an incredible world of tranquility. When you visit, you’ll discover a winery and a way of life—we live for wine! Book your visit now »

5. I will find the best wine for every occasion
The wide variety available can make choosing the best wine for a specific occasion a challenge: red wines, white wines, rosés, sparkling, dry, sweet, and a very long list goes on.
Don’t despair! There is a wine for every season of the year, every occasion, every taste, and every budget. The key is to search, learn, and discover what best complements your most special occasion. In this post, we talked about some characteristics of the different varietals that are part of our wines: Read post »
6. By consuming wine, I will contribute to the rural development of our country
The wine industry is one of the main drivers of development in many rural areas of Spain. Economically, it is an activity that generates benefits for wineries and also creates a positive ripple effect on other businesses in those regions. Moreover, wine tourism, which is increasingly widespread in the various wine-producing areas of our country, presents an ideal opportunity for sustainable development in these destinations.
Therefore, in 2022, we encourage you to continue pairing your moments with wine, not only to savor an extraordinary product of our gastronomy but also to contribute to and support the rural development of Spanish wine regions with a gesture as simple (and enjoyable) as enjoying a glass of wine.
7. I will read a book about wine
There are numerous books about wine that can be an ideal way to expand your knowledge of oenology. Research, read reviews from other wine lovers, and when you choose one (or several), enjoy delving into our unique and fascinating world.
A great way to immerse yourself in a fun and engaging manner is by reading a novel about the world of wine. Among others, we recommend: *“The Winemaker”* by Noah Gordon, *“The Genius of the Bottle”* by Miguel Ángel Aguirre Borrallo, *“A Vineyard in Tuscany”* by Ferenc Máté, or *“And They Left”* by Viviana Rivero.
What better way to fulfill the classic resolution of “reading more” than by learning about wine?
8. I will watch a movie about the world of wine
Cinema and wine are a perfect pairing. Watching a good movie from the comfort of your home with a glass of your favorite wine in hand is a pleasure as simple as it is undeniable. Moreover, cinema has explored this unique product for years across a wide variety of films (romantic comedies, dramedies, thrillers, etc.), allowing you to dive into the world of wine in an entertaining and enjoyable way.
Here are some wine-themed movies that are an absolute delight for any wine lover and should not be missed:

Sideways by Alexander Payne – USA, 2004
A Good Year by Ridley Scott – U.K./France, 2006
The Summer We Lived by Carlos Sedes – Spain, 2020
Bon appétit by David Pinillos – Spain, 2010

9. I will gift wine whenever possible
Gifting wine is a way to share landscapes, culture, and moments of pleasure. Around you, there are likely many people who, to varying degrees, are wine lovers (from casual fans to true enthusiasts) for whom a bottle of wine will always be a special gift.
If, in addition, the wine you choose to gift has character and a beautiful story behind it, as is the case with Bodegas Mendoza wines, we are certain that your gift will be a success.
Here are some ideas to help you choose the perfect wine to gift your loved ones.
10. I will host a wine-pairing dinner
Pairing is the art through which gastronomy and wine come together to maximize their flavors, accentuating the best in one another. And what could be better than enjoying this eno-gastronomic pleasure in good company?
This year, we encourage you to organize a lunch or dinner with your friends, family, or partner, where through pairing, you can enjoy a pleasant time around a great table while opening yourselves up to the world of wine in a fun and engaging way.
From Bodegas Mendoza, we offer the following tips to help you be an excellent host for your pairing dinner: plan the dishes to be served (number, timing, etc.), choose the wines that best pair with the dishes (it’s common to start with lighter wines and move to stronger ones), add a thematic touch to your dinner (decorations, invitations, menus, music, etc.), and finally, enjoy the excellent combinations and flavors.
11. I will create my own home wine cellar
Every wine lover has a special corner for some bottles of wine in their home. If you can’t afford a refrigerated wine cabinet, find a cool, low-light, odor-free place. Typically, the bottles found in these spaces are our favorite wines—those we enjoy most frequently.
As we’ve been saying, in 2022 we encourage you to embrace new flavors, explore, and discover, which will help you expand, enjoy, and share your own wine collection with your loved ones.

12. I will use a wine app
In the era of new technologies and apps, wine-related applications have been a reality for years. There is a wide variety of wine apps with different purposes and functionalities: apps for designations of origin, wineries, wine guides, wine tourism, wine shops, wine identification, or record-keeping, among others.
If you want to learn more about a specific DO (regions, varietals, wineries, activities), explore the offerings of a particular winery (products, visits, experiences), buy wine online, or keep a record of the different wines you’ll be trying throughout the year, using one of the apps designed for this purpose can make life easier and keep you updated on the latest trends in the wonderful world of wine. One of the most well-known is Vivino, and we encourage you to give it a try.
These are the most important wine-related resolutions we suggest including in your list of goals for 2022. Grab a notebook or a sheet of paper, write down your wishes or objectives (if you set a deadline for achieving them, it will be easier to accomplish), and try not to lose sight of them.
We hope you enjoyed our suggestions for making wine your companion on this new year’s journey. If only fulfilling the rest of our resolutions were as fun and enjoyable!
