Bodegas Enrique Mendoza invest in solar energy

Some time ago, we shared Bodegas Enrique Mendoza’s commitment to sustainability and hinted at a new project that we were eager to unveil soon. In our post, we gave you a glimpse of what was to come.

Well, the wait is over, and we are excited to reveal that this project involves a new Socially Responsible Investment (SRI).

As we all know, climate change is becoming increasingly evident—milder winters, extreme summer heatwaves, devastating weather events, rising sea levels, and more. Staying true to our sustainability pledge, Bodegas Enrique Mendoza is committed to contributing to mitigating climate change, and we firmly believe in the importance of Socially Responsible Investments.

And we say this with firsthand knowledge: vineyards are one of the best indicators for detecting changes in climate and temperature, giving us a clear understanding of how these shifts could affect the health of our vines and the quality of our wines.

As part of our unwavering dedication to innovation and the environment, in February 2022, we completed the installation of photovoltaic panels on the rooftops of our facilities, both at Finca El Chaconero in Villena and at our winery in Alfaz del Pi. This significant step will enable both wineries to become energy self-sufficient.

The journey of crafting a wine begins in the vineyard, continues through our winemaking facility, aging cellars, bottling plant, and travels a long path until the bottle, adorned with its label and capsule, reaches the hands of the final consumer. Each stage of the process requires significant human effort, numerous materials, and substantial energy consumption.

The Mediterranean region where we are located is privileged by its climate. The sun offers us much more than just a resource—it provides us with essential Vitamin D, grants us some of the most pleasant winters in all of Europe, and, let’s admit it, it brightens our mood. But looking further, it’s also a renewable, inexhaustible, and non-polluting energy source that contributes to sustainable development.

For this project, we partnered with the team at Cubierta Solar, who installed 60 photovoltaic panels at our Villena winery and 80 panels at our Alfaz del Pi winery, each with a capacity of 355W.

This installation will reduce CO2 emissions by 34,000 kg annually, reaffirming our strong commitment to environmental management. Moreover, it represents significant energy savings for our company over the 30-year lifespan of these solar panels.

At Bodegas Enrique Mendoza, we remain committed to **Socially Responsible Investments (SRI)**, and our latest project focused on **solar photovoltaic energy** is a clear example of this commitment. This initiative allows us to be more environmentally conscious, reduce costs, and significantly lower CO2 emissions.

Our mission at **Bodegas Enrique Mendoza** goes beyond crafting better wines every day for consumers to enjoy. It’s about doing so sustainably—without depleting resources for future generations and minimizing our environmental impact. It’s about fostering an environment where vines can thrive and develop to their fullest potential. This is our philosophy.
